Koala Conservation Experience
Join passionate and dedicated conservationists in conducting vital work to conserve one of the world’s most enchanting animals.
Venture into the Australian bush with the conservation team to participate in inspiring fieldwork, learn about koala and woodland ecology, gain skills in survey techniques and assist with the rehabilitation of injured and orphaned koalas.
Conservation work may include some or all of the following activities:
- Population surveys: deploying, retrieving and reviewing camera traps
- DNA collection for analysis
- Habitat assessment surveys
- Monitoring of habitat use and behaviour through telemetry (radio tracking collared koalas)
- Habitat restoration
- Development of innovative habitat management techniques
- Gathering of eucalyptus leaves for injured and orphaned Koalas
It is not all about hard work though – in between conservation activities you can take in some of the sights of the Great Ocean Road including the Great Ocean Walk and Twelve Apostles or even just relax in the dappled shade of the eucalypts, watching the koalas dozing high in the trees above you.

The Koala Conservation Insight offers some special insights into koala conservation (three hours of conservation work per day), while the Koala Conservation Expedition includes four days of fieldwork with the conservation team and two days of exploration and sightseeing.
