Founding member, Ecolodges of Australia

The Great Ocean Ecolodge was a founding member of Ecolodges of Australia. This initiative of Ecotourism Australia was established in 2010 to offer the eco conscious traveller responsible, ethical and sustainable eco experiences in Australia’s most amazing natural locations.

The Great Ocean Ecolodge is frequently profiled by Australian and international universities as a case study in Ecotourism excellence.

Accreditation

Eco-certified Advanced Ecotourism

Ecotourism Australia is a global leader in accrediting operators who make a commitment to ‘ecologically sustainable tourism with a primary focus on experiencing natural areas that fosters environmental and cultural understanding, appreciation and conservation’.

This independent organisation audits all our operations and accredits the Great Ocean Ecolodge at the highest level, as an Advanced Ecotourism product. This is your independent assurance of our dedication to providing sustainable and authentic ecotourism experiences.

Licensed Parks Victoria Tour Operators

The Conservation Ecology Centre and the Great Ocean Ecolodge work closely with Parks Victoria and are Licensed Parks Victoria Tour Operators. The Great Ocean Ecolodge is an official Great Ocean Walk Partner.

Awards

Highly Commended Award, World Responsible Tourism Awards, 2011

The Great Ocean Ecolodge was delighted to receive a Highly Commended Award in the Conservation of Wildlife and Habitats Category – the only Australian organisation to receive an award at this year’s Ceremony in London. Read more about the Award in our News.

Australian Geographic Society, Conservationist of the Year Award, 2007

In 2007 the Australian Geographic Society bestowed the Conservationist of the Year Award in recognition of our commitment to the future of Australian wildlife.

Prime Minister’s Award for Environmentalist of the Year, 2005

In 2005 we were awarded the very prestigious Prime Minister’s Award for Environmentalist of the Year by the Banksia Foundation. Lizzie was the first woman and the youngest ever recipient of this award.

Victorian Tourism Award, Best New Development, 2004

In the year of its opening the Great Ocean Ecolodge was awarded the Victorian Tourism Award for Best New Development. We pride ourselves on the quality of the experience we share with our guests and work continuously to raise the bar for responsible travel.
